Each year a group from the FootTEA club of 7-11 year olds goes to HopScotch near Fort William. The exploits, particularly the big game sea fishing, are legendary. But in 2013 a group of older club members got as far as Tanzania. That’s Tanzania in Africa not a club in South Edinburgh.
‘What is a clearer way of saying you can make things happen, that you can be in control of your destiny? ‘Kenny describes the moment of sitting down with a group and suggesting you can get to another hemisphere provided you all work together. ‘The trip certainly put their views of what poverty was into context. But it was also a strong political lesson. You can make things happen.’
